How to Get Started at Athens State
A Strong Finish Starts Here.
Helping You Navigate the Admissions Process
No matter where you are in life, enrolling in college can be a challenging experience. At Athens State, we want to do everything possible to streamline the admissions process by providing you with all the information you need, when you need it.

Who We Are
Athens State University is the oldest continuously operating institution of higher education in Alabama. We’re an upper-division, transfer-focused university that meets the needs of students often left underserved in other learning environments.

How Much Does an Athens State Degree Cost?
Athens State is proud to offer some of the most affordable degrees in the Southeast, with tuition rates for online degree programs as low as $241 per credit hour for undergraduate programs and $348 for graduate degrees (plus fees).

How to Gain Admission
At Athens State, our main priority is providing quality, accessible education to nontraditional learners. Undergraduate students just need to have 36 transferable credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA to gain admission, while graduate students must have earned a bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. We also offer conditional admission to certain students who don’t meet those requirements.

How to Pay for Your Degree
We understand that cost can be a barrier to education. That’s why we’re happy to provide a variety of financial aid options for those who qualify, as well as flexible payment plans, to help students finance their degrees.
